For over 20 years our PPFL team have been working in the poly welding industry, specialising in butt fusion welding, extrusion welding, hydrostatic pressure testing and fabricating customised fittings. Fusion
Welding
Butt fusion is a thermo-fusion process which involves the simultaneous heating of the ends of two pipe/fitting components which are to be joined to create a sound joint. This means the joint is fully resistant to end loads and has comparable performance under pressure to the pipe itself. Butt fusion can be used to join both PE80 and PE100 materials for pipe sizes of 90mm and above of the same SDR.
Hydrostatic Pressure Testing
Hydrostatic testing is the main means of proving the 'fitness for service' of a pressurised component. It is a non-destructive testing technique. The idea is to put pressure and stress on the pipeline and components to identify leaks, faults or defects. It is recommended this testing is completed before you accept any newly installed pipeline. We manage this entire process and will provide you with a detailed written report.
Customised
Fittings
No matter what your requirements are, we will work with your engineers and plans to ensure a successful outcome of your project. Often this means fabricating customised fittings for you. We can fabricate segmented bends to any angle that you require or reduce the size of tees. These are just some examples of our customised fittings. We are happy to come to you to discuss your specific requirements.
Extrusion
Welding
Extrusion welding is the plastic equivalent to MIG welding. We use a hand-held welder that is like an over-sized hot glue gun. When pressed against the object a large section of softened plastic is extruded into the weld joint/location. It allows the application of bigger welds in a single weld pass. This is ideal for jobs such as fixing plastic water tanks. As long as we can identify the plastic, we can use extrusion welding.
Destructive
Testing
As we offer a total solution, we like to manage our projects/jobs from the beginning to the end. We partner with Kiwi Mechanical Labs to take care of your destructive testing needs. The easiest way to prove weld quality is to create a couple of welds prior to the project, send it to the lab and they test to see how and when it will fail. They will test until they destroy it. You will receive a detailed written report.
